The Wild World of Birdsong - Edinburgh Science Festival

Learn some of the fascinating science behind birdsong as well as how to identify a number of common species. We will also explore how to interpret bird calls and behaviour. Alarm calls and flight patterns can alert us to the presence of birds of prey and other predators, both in the countryside and city centre. This heightened awareness helps even those with no previous experience to pay attention to – and enjoy – their surroundings even more, no matter where they live.

Learning bird calls is also a great way for people of all abilities and levels of experience to get involved in citizen science. Participants will be made aware of the bird recording schemes accessible to those new to birding, and how the records they provide are essential for science-based conservation efforts.

Outdoor clothing and sturdy non-slip footwear recommended. Uneven surfaces. Bring binoculars if you have them but not essential. Children must be accompanied by an adult and closely supervised.
